As a Board Director, I am committed to ensuring the success of all Rockwood students, providing a positive work environment for our teachers and staff, and fostering an open dialogue with all stakeholders in the community.

Education First - Focused on academic achievement for all learners Back to Top
Preparing our students to lead productive lives by providing the best education will enable each of them to reach their highest potential, no matter the path they choose after graduation. To that end, we must ensure a safe learning environment, high quality teachers, and sufficient resources to support student growth. With education-focused leadership, the board of education should offer oversight, guidance, and support so that all students have the best outcomes attending school in Rockwood.
Recruitment, development, and retention of highly qualified educators and staffBack to Top
Staff and teacher recruitment, hiring, and retention are growing challenges across the nation. Research indicates that teacher turnover has a negative effect on student achievement. It is important that we seek opportunities to attract the most qualified candidates to come to Rockwood by providing a safe and supportive teaching and working environment. Retaining highly qualified staff and teachers involves recognizing their contributions and giving them a voice.
Safe working and learning environments for all employees and studentsBack to Top
Safe environments have one thing in common — communication. Students and employees should be encouraged to communicate regularly and openly so they feel heard and validated. Students and employees should feel comfortable reporting safety concerns and incidents without fear of reprisal and with confidence that all issues will be taken seriously and addressed promptly. With future Prop 3 funding, additional safety support and protocols will be integrated into every building.
Effective financial stewardship of Rockwood tax dollarsBack to Top
Board members play an essential role in ensuring the financial integrity of the school district. Vigilance on financial matters can translate into student achievement when public funds are spent prudently and effectively. Strong policies aligned to the mission and vision of the district play an important role in ensuring financial integrity and keeping our school district running smoothly. It is important that financial transparency with the community be continual.
Transparent and consistent communication with all Rockwood community membersBack to Top
School boards must balance the need for orderly and efficient meetings with the importance of hearing concerns, support, or other opinions from the public. A well-designed, ongoing communication plan is the key to developing community trust and support. Part of that plan is reaching out to key stakeholders in the business community, ministerial associations, senior citizen groups, civic organizations, city government, parent groups, staff groups, and students to build effective communication channels. Listening is every bit as important as talking.
Unified vision for Rockwood’s continued recognition as a premier school districtBack to Top
Achieving a unified vision requires a combination of strategic planning, effective leadership, and a strong foundation built on shared values and goals in education. The Board of Education needs to listen and learn by providing opportunities for feedback that is recognized and valued. Rockwood has numerous achievements to be proud of. We need to honor those positives while striving to improve in areas of concern. It is important to foster trust in our school-wide community, share respect for all stakeholders, provide open communication, and be transparent in our actions. We are Rockwood! Together we create a stronger vision of who we are!
